For those of you who may be surprised, recently, I’ve been starting back up on writing the second episode of Ultraman Kejadian, albeit I’ve been checking out many of SolZen’s blogs for Episode 3. For this comment, I’ll discuss the blog I linked up above.
First up, I actually agree, Sol. Pathos is a constant that many Kaiju films have failed in. Human characters often fail to be relatable in these films. However, more recently, in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), I will admit that I couldn’t help but feel connected to the Russel family.
That’s because I understand their situation. I understand what it’s like to lose a family member: I lost my dad to cancer in December 2017. Sure, it wasn’t the father in the family who the Russels lost, so my situation is reversed, but technically, I can understand it. I also understand that differences in the parents’ views towards having their child killed during a Kaiju’s rampage could lead to divorce. When I was in kindergarten, my mom divorced my dad.
Secondly, regardless of that, I’ve also realized that using only a few sources of inspiration for fan fiction can be bad for a story: you can have good pathos and realistic suffering in a story, yet there may still be unoriginal ideas. Thus, I intend to find other sources of inspiration for Episode 3 onward in Ultraman Kejadian.
